Location
The Canberra campus of the University of New South Wales is located at the Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA). ADFA is located in an Australian bushland setting less than five kilometres from the city centre and the Canberra airport.

Family Friendly Work Practices
UNSW@ADFA has a number family friendly work practices in place to assist staff. These arrangements are designed to find the best possible match between the interests of the University and those of individual employees and can include: flex-time; permanent part time work; job sharing; recognition of carers' responsibilities and leave such as parental leave (academic staff/professional and technical staff) and carer's leave (academic staff/professional and technical staff).
Facilities available on campus
The UNSW@ADFA campus has a large and comprehensive library, state-of-the-art computing facilities, well-equipped and modern laboratories and a concessions area which includes a hair salon, a University Cooperative Bookshop, financial institutions, a 24-hr ATM and the ADFA Cafe. A modern gymnasium and sporting facilities are available to staff. A Muslim prayer room is also available on campus.
Public Transport
A taxi rank and bus stops are located on campus.

Hours of work
Ordinary hours of work for most professional and technical staff are 35 hour per week (7 hours per day worked within the appropriate span of hours). Many parts of the University operate on flex-time which allows professional and technical staff, in consultation with the relevant supervisor, to vary start and finish times and to have a regular rostered day off.
Salary rates/Salary sacrificing
The University offers very competitive salary rates for academic and professional and technical staff. The University recognises the value of flexible remuneration planning for its staff by providing some salary sacrificing options including superannuation and motor vehicle leasing. Salary sacrificing allows staff to restructure the way they receive their salary to suit individual needs and maximise take home pay.
Training Opportunities
UNSW@ADFA provides training and development opportunities for staff by:
- supporting staff in planning and developing their careers
- offering training courses (in training and facilitation skills, recruitment and selection and other areas)
- addressing the development needs of managers and academic leaders, and
- providing opportunities for staff to network and learn from one another.
Recreation and other types of leave
Both academic and professional and technical staff are entitled to:
- 20 days of recreation leave per year. Further, staff receive an annual leave (bonus) payment equal to 17.5 per cent of salary for the period of leave accrued.
- Three months of long service leave on full pay on completion of 10 years' service.
- Generous sick leave and other leave entitlements including parental leave and carer's leave.
SSP or Sabbatical leave
In addition, academics are eligible for up to six months SSP leave upon completion of three years' of service which includes financial assistance:
- payment of the staff member's airfare (maximum amount applies),
- grant towards SSP living expenses and,
- grant support for spouse and dependant child, for family members accompanying the staff member for six weeks or more.
Public & University Holidays
UNSW@ADFA staff receive the following paid public holidays each year: New Year's Day, Australia Day, Canberra Day, Good Friday, Easter Monday, Anzac Day, Queen's Birthday, Labour Day, Family and Community Day, Christmas Day, Boxing Day, Public Holiday in place of the August Bank Holiday and two University Holidays.
Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
UNSW@ADFA offers a free, confidential counselling service to staff members and their families which is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This is provided by an external professional EAP organisation - Davidson Trahaire.
